What does a Brazilian accent sound like?
A Brazilian accent has notable musical intonation and rhythmic patterns that differ from European Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese has a softer, more open pronunciation with less nasalization, so there’s a distinct sing-song cadence that involves raising the pitch at the end of sentences. The ‘r’ at the end of a word is pronounced as ‘h,’ and ‘d’, and ‘t’ before ‘i’ and ‘e’ sound more like ‘g’ and ‘ch.’ Since Brazil is a large country, the regional accents vary from the stereotypical ‘Carioca’ accent of Rio de Janeiro to the more ‘drawled’ accent of the Northeast.
