What is a freelancer?

When you think about outsourcing your project components, the word freelancer instantly comes to mind. Someone who’s easily and quickly available, with affordable costs and the necessary know-how to find the tasks you assign. While freelancers can be anything from digital nomads to part-timer workers – they all have a few things in common. They’re skilled, fast, work according to deadlines, and are looking for the next gig, which could be your next project! But should you hire a freelancer? Doesn’t that involve more paperwork and time? Not necessarily!

The pros and cons of outsourcing

Post-pandemic, most companies hire freelancers to take on project components that are easily outsources and completed remotely. Designing, editing, production, voice overs, and writing are all frequently required.

Hiring a freelancer typically makes this process easier, cheaper, and faster – instead of hiring a permanent writer, designer, etc. However, the challenges of remote work still need to be overcome – there are sometimes communication gaps and too much to-and-fro-ing. It’s also challenging to pay freelancers across borders, or worse yet, add them as vendors if your finance department has strict payment protocols or net terms.

So, what do you need to know about hiring freelancers? How can you best communicate your project needs and expectations?
