Got my SAG card working on the CBS-TV series, "Magnum, P.I" and was their Military Technical Advisor, too.
Retired from the US Army in 1984 after serving almost 23 years. Served both as an enlisted man and officer. Most of my career was in Special Forces, Ranger, Infantry and Special Operations units and assignments, mainly in Asia. Served two combat tours in Vietnam, 1966 - 1967 and 1968 - 1969. The first tour was with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), mostly on an A Team. Decorated with the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Valor, as well as the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for my actions on this team in Bu Dop.
Additionally, served as President, US Army Ranger Association for five and a half years, 1999 - 2004. In that job, I created and developed a marketing program that is still the source of significant funding.
Second tour was mainly as an infantry commander of Co D 2d Bn 503d Parachute Infantry, 173d Airborne Brigade. Received another Bronze Star for V and other awards for my tour. Some of my exploits were written in the best selling book, "Soldier", 1973. I am currently writing my autobiography focusing primarily on my military career, particularly on my second tour in Vietnam and the events that followed.
Besides serving in Vietnam, I've participated in various levels of military training and exercises in Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Japan, and Thailand. Served 13 months in Thailand where I eventually become commander of a Special Forces qualified element for POW-MIA search operations. Our unit assumed the mission of building and operating a Cambodian and Vietnamese refugee camp in Utapao, Thailand in 1975. We were part of a multi-agency task force during this crisis. For my work, I received a letter of commendation from President Gerald R. Ford.
In my quest to become a mainstream character actor in major productions, I have worked various off camera jobs ranging from military technical advisor, writer, director, and narrator, production assistant, assistant director, driver, locations manager, just to name a few.
Beyond all this I am an avid sailor, own a sailboat and have a Captains License. Also, I'm a photographer, received my training through professional courses taught in Hawaii during my terminal assignment in Special Operations Command Pacific. Used these photography skills in identifying drop zones, landing zones, beach landing sites, targets and airstrips for a six-nation special operations exercise I developed and directed.
