23 years ago, a young man walked into one of the largest radio stations in the mid-west and said, “I wanna be on the radio!” With a smile and the thought of cheap labor, the program director gave in and I got my first gig doing misc fill in, music library duty and what ever jobs that nobody else wanted to tackle. Little did I know, I was one of the youngest voices in radio at the time, but didn’t sound like it. For my first real slot some two years later, I moved on to afternoon drive on a small market AM/FM country combo. Moving up in market size, it was on to mornings on a Top 40, then to the first attempt at “Churban” (CHR mixed with early rap). In the early 90’s, I discovered the predecessor of the Internet, IVR, and the chance to challenge my range over the first true digital networks. My voice did news, weather, sports and entertainment clips for 3 different telemedia networks spanning all 50 states, hundreds of sites and some points overseas. However, after a variety of television commercials, sales presentations, book overviews, the on-hold boom and some early internet work, the call of the country…called me back. So, here I am working country radio and all the aspects that come along with it. I feel that after on-air work, documentary reads, imaging work and so much more, my voice has yet to peak. I could be your next voice, whether it need be serious or laid back and fun. Whatever the case, the next call is yours and I’m here to answer.
There was no “course work” involved in the development of the presence I offer. One of my program directors put it best early on. “You've got great pipes, it comes natural for you and you’ve learned the best way possible…by doing it. Plus, people want you to work for them.” I learn by doing and a little trial and error to come up with the best sound or result. So, if there was ever the definition of OJT, my resume is it.
My interest in many activities and involvement in other employment over the years allow me to understand and relate to listeners of many different genres. I’ve spent some 12 plus years working in emergency services including fire, EMS and a Sheriff’s Deputy. I am an avid hunter and sportsman. A politician. A believer. A husband. A listener. And, a supporter. I have a knack for relating to others no matter the political, religious or personal beliefs.
