COACHING & DIRECTING:
In addition to his work as a full-time voice-over actor and producer, Stephen James is an award-winning voice-over coach providing private lessons from his professional home studio in BIloxi, MS. and in New Orleans - as well as taking his expertise to providing affordable workshops across the Southern states on a volunteer basis under the The NOLA Voice Talent Foundation - a 501(c)3 non-profit organization Stephen founded in 2009 to support the community.
The NVT workshops are designed for all voice performers - whether behind-the-mic, on stage, or in front of the camera, as well as for professionals/executives who use their voice for corporate presentations.
Throughout 2018, Stephen providing in excess of 25 such workshops/classes, in locations as far afield as Lafayette, LA. and Pensacola, FL. including regular bi-weekly workshops in New Orleans, LA. and in Biloxi, MS. The event calendar for 2018 is published at right.
Productions
Preparations are already under way for the 2018 SIXTH Annual NVT Hollywood South Awards, produced and presented by Stephen James for The NOLA Voice Talent Foundation, to recognize individual talent and commitment to the movie, theater, broadcasting, and voice-over industries in Louisiana.
The NVT Awards have become the main social event of the social calendar in Hollywood South (principally Louisiana and Mississippi).
In addition, Stephen will begin auditions and rehearsals in September for The NOLA Voice Talent Foundation's TENTH Annual New Orleans and Region Benefit Production of "It's a Wonderful Life" as a radio play on stage, produced and directed jointly by Stephen James. This annual fund-raising production has raised thousands of dollars for non-profit organizations throughout the region.
Stephen in 2003 received a diploma in voice-over acting in Las Vegas, where he was a leading light in "The Talent Pool" run by his voice mentor and coach, former Hollywood TV actress Betty Lougaris. Stephen was also an active member of the board of Media Guilds International.
During this time, the highlightsof his voice-over activities are a 'behind the mic' performance as part of the Talent Pool at Mandalay Bay Hotel/Casino on the Las Vegas Strip, and a number of apearances on KLVX-TV Channel 10, presenting "An Evening of British Comedy".
Stephen has also coached American actors on speaking "British English" and acted as a consultant to writers, providing advice and guidance on "British-English" usage, grammar, syntax, and dialect.
In 2013 Stephen was awarded "Louisiana's favorite voice coach" by national industry publication "Backestage" and, in 2018, was selected as a Judge for the 2018 SoVAS Awards.
I am have my own fully-equipped recording studio.
I am a personal voice-over coach for a number of voice actors, and also coach British English for American Voice Actors. In addition, I have been a consultant on British English usage for a number of writers.
I also am co-producer and director of the Annual New Orleans Benefit Radio-play "It's a Wonderful Life" (2009 - present) in which I have also played the roles of Clarence Oddbody and Henry Potter
