Rick Wimberly

Rick Wimberly's voice can get pretty dang deep and warm, but his real ability is storytelling and relatability. He has a spring in his voice performance, which can appeal to all demographics. Although raised in the south, Rick generally performs with a midwestern, American accent that makes it difficult to figure out his roots. When needed, he can add a bit authentic southern, Texas or western without the southern drawl. Rick can sound raspy and older, or bright and younger (although not too young). Grandude enjoys directed sessions and follows direction well. Rick Wimberly can sound similar to Donald Sutherland, Sam Elliott, or Donald Sutherland combined with Tom Bodett. (His coach says she hears some Wilford Brimley who, like Rick, sounded old even when he was young.) While Rick's voice, patterns and inflections are similar to these unique voices, he doesn't do imitations of them (or anyone else for that matter). Mostly though, he sounds like his Dad, a regular Joe who had for knack speaking quietly, but being heard loudly.

Rick Wimberly spent years on-air in radio and TV, took a break from the business, then went on a quest to become a strong voice actor with a feel for a regular Joe with authority and credibility. Known as Grandude (given that name by his grandchildren), Rick's voice can consistently be heard on radio and TV commercials on most of the radio and TV stations in Tennessee. Some of the radio spots he wrote and produced. Rick narrates a podcast, Myths of Selling Government, which can be found on most of the popular podcast platforms. His voice can be heard in the streaming feature film, On Sacred Ground and on Montucky Cold Snacks spots. Rick Wimberly's lead commercial coach is the accomplished Gabrielle Nistico who is heard daily, well, everywhere. He participates in many seminars, does lots of research and has active campaigns underway to build his network through LinkedIn and other channels. But mostly, Rick works to serve his voice acting clients, learn more about the craft of voice acting, perform auditions and push himself with a lot of energy. Rick's home studio outside Nashville features a Neumann TLM 103 mic. He uses a Neumann U47 when he's in Brooklyn working from his son's studio (a Grammy-nominated producer) and an Electrovoice RE 20 when in Boston with his other son (a Berklee College of Music executive). Rick uses an Apollo Solo interface and Audacity DAW on a Mac. His musical sons and clients say his room sounds great. Rick is a SourceConnect member.
