My voice and my ability to use tone and expression appropriately have been integral to all my experiences. As a teacher, I am communicating with various kinds of audience and so my voice can be intimate, engaging and inviting or it can be a younger version of Joyce Grenville! I studied Literae Humaniores (Classics) at Oxford for which an awareness and an understanding of language both written and spoken were vital. I have been recording my own music for the past eighteen months, including much spoken word. In this case, I have used varying styles to create different effects.I have given motivational speeches, for example I was recently invited to Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in Islington to deliver a speech to the graduating Year 11s. In this instance, I used both a narrative style, when it was appropriate, and a motivational style. I have an engaging voice and a talent for expressive delivery.
My training has come via acting and singing. I am a singer songwriter and I also acted frequently at college and university. In both of these, I learned voice modulation skills and have practised and used varying styles of voiceover both in my own recordings and on my college radio station. My skills have been developed in my acting - for example, I played an old-fashioned radio 4 voice over artist in a production of The Real Inspector Hound.
