I have only recently entered the VO market. Raeding to my own children gave me the opportunity to try different voices. They loved my readings especially Dr Suess. The animated nuances made this experience fun for them too.
During a supervisory position at TVG-Inc in Fort Washington PA, in a busy call center, I created a daily self written "tip-of-the-day. This went out to every operater each morning. Motivational themes, pertaining to the days activities, were the norm.
Recently, I have completed an on-air commercail for Wayne Bank in Lake Wallenpaupack area of PA. Also, two comedy vignettes completed with Bob Benedetto for his radio stations and a real estate commercial skit. I have also completed several jingles but none of these have aired to date.
I am very thankful for the training I have received from Bob Benedetto. He is a well known VO artist, in the business many years. He believed in the talent he heard and worked with me to provide professionalism.
As a supervisor for TVG I trained others to pay close attention to the tone, texture and fluctuations in their voices. The difference in making a sale could simply be the upward questioning tone they left in a statement sentence. Sounds as if they are unsure. Assertive communication should be friendly surety not bossy authoritative noise. My personal success as a telephone liaison gave me the understanding for the supervisory position I occupied.
I spent many years in my first career as a hair stylist. Understanding people and the impact of communication was an important learned skill. If I spoke with a smile on my face they paid attention.
I was with TVG,Inc for three years. This position enhanced and honed the basic knowledge I had from prior hair client interaction.
Reading has always been a passionate activity for me. But, when I started a family and read to my kids I realized the difference between reading and "being in the story". My son is 20 years old and asked me to read a Dr Suess story for his girlfriend. He told her how much fun I made the experience and wanted her to share. I thought this was the "best ever" praise.
Another recent exposure to voice only communication is a personal endeavor for Numerology readings. I did the reading and taped the results. The recipient called me to tell me how thrilled she was with the results. In passing she mentioned how easy it was to listen to my voice.
