Recently I took a chance and traded my secure 9-5 advertising job for a job as a board operator at a very small radio station. I have had a wonderful opportunity to gain invaluable production training and the DJ's have been complimentary of my natural talent. I am so excited to see what is to come because I finally feel like I am actually using my talents instead of working for a paycheck. So far I have done recordings for a flooring company in addition to news briefs that I've written myself. The radio station is called SOMAR Communications and it's located in Mechanicsville, MD. My work has been very recent (within the last 7 months) and I am blessed to have a really supportive team at the station.
I majored in Communications with a concentration in broadcast production. My mistake was getting lured away from this field by a job that offered great pay. I stayed in advertising for money, but I am passionate about broadcast so now I am starting from scratch. While in college I interned with the #1 Radio Show in DC back in 2000. I have always been in some way involved with the fine arts as a ballet dancer, teacher. I love music and have been in many stage plays from childhood through college. I am a performer at heart.
I love to write and would have no problem contributing to scripts, editing copy etc. I am a contributor for an online magazine. I am willing to go above and beyond and I'm grateful for all opportunities.
