I'm your typical Southern California girl, born and raised in Orange County! I just recently decided to try my hand at a voice over career after getting laid off from my full-time job as a high school math teacher. I'm currently working on finishing my master's degree in Secondary Education while also tutoring and working as a group exercise instructor to make ends meet.
In terms of acting, I attended the Academy of Performing Arts at Huntington Beach High School and did numerous performances during my education there. I have 14 years of cheerleading experience as well. As a high school math teacher, I am a seasoned performer! It takes a lot of energy, intonation, creativity, and acting skills to get high school students to care about and learn math.
I recently attended a workshop put on by Dan Levine where we discussed getting into the voice over career. He also taught us some techniques and analyzed our voices. Here is the feedback he emailed me: "Katie is absolutely great! She has a young, expressive, even perky way of speaking. Fantastic for the twenty something market. I am so confident in her ability to gesture voice-over jobs and I would strongly encourage her to pursue this!"
Adobe Audition software, USB microphone, a capable PC, and a quiet closet.
Outside of the entertainment industry, I am education-oriented. I graduated from high school in 2003 with the highest honors. I received my B.A. in Psychology (with minors in English and Philosophy) from U.C. Santa Barbara in 2006 - one year early! After that, I received my teaching credential in secondary mathematics in 2008 from CSU Fullerton. After two years of teaching, I decided to get my master's degree in Secondary Education from CSU Fullerton, and I will receive that in May of 2012.
