I started in this industry as a radio air talent from 1983 to 1998. Held the Production Director position at WJQI-FM, Va Beach, VA ...Coast 102.9 FM in Jacksonville, FL and WROQ-FM in Greenville, SC.
I have written and produced radio commercials for many types of clients, from car dealers to insurance agencies. I enjoy writing copy as well as working with pre-written scripts.
Past work also includes narrations for MWR films produced for new recruits at several military bases across the country. I have done voice tracks for car dealer TV buys in both the Va Beach and JAcksonville FL markets. Regional radio spots for the Drug Emporium chain, in store audio for Farm Fresh supermarkets, among others.
Attended North Carolina State University - while there began working campus radio and drama productions. My primary involvement with the voiceover industry has been through my radio career. I have attended various radio production workshops - most notably one given by Chuck Blore while in the Jacksonville FL area. I actively seek coaching and advice from friends and associates in the industry.
PC Based setup featuring Adobe Audition 3.0 production software. Interface is a FireWire-based Alesis multi-mix console. I have 3 microphones I use depending on the job at hand - they are the Neumann TLM 103 and Rode NT1-A condenser mics, as well as a Heil PR40 dynamic microphone. My primary mic preamp/processor is the DBX 286A, but I also have a Presonus Studio Channel type A tube preamp I use with the Neumann mic. Any additional processing is handled digitally during final mastering with "plug-ins" in Adobe Audition.
My setup, paired with broadband internet access gives me the quick and easy ability to deliver raw voice tracks or fully produced projects anywhere in the world. I am accustomed to working with remote producers in real time via cell or land line phone to deliver the desired voiceover.
My earlier radio career included stints as an audio engineer responsible for the audio processing and signal
chain. I have studied the psychological impact of heavy processing (EQ and compression) on males and females.
I am knowledgeable regarding best practices in audio production. This includes the judicious use (and not overuse) of compression and EQ along with proper mixing with an ear for eventual broadcast.
Being a copywriter, I am willing and able to adjust or rewrite copy on the fly as the situation requires. With relevant information at hand, I am usually able to create effective scripts in a timely manner.
