in the past, I have over-dubbed my voice onto countless movies, by simply muting the TV and speaking for the actors while a videocamera recorded the show and my voice.
always improv and ending up most always being entirely silly, but in keeping with the movement of their mouths almost to perfection. however, if our dialogue needed to continue and the actors stopped "speaking" I simply continued, adding to the silly factor. bad dubbing works wonders for a persons smile. I also did sound effects.
aside from that, I've done voicing for puppets and cartoons... all of which were home-made and improv. also, I've done story-telling accompanied by silly songs, all home-made... (nothing inappropriate).
show how I learned to be a voice over? I can't really recount all of my days growing up, but since I was young I always used to "play with" my voice and alter it.
"Mystery Science Theater 3000" was a big influence in getting me to be more interactive with movies and generally any situation I found myself in. various times I've found myself looking at a couple across a resteraunt (or anywhere else) and "talking for them". making eating noises and slurping sounds as they ate and drank and talked to eachother. sometimes...er.. most times rather, it was silly, but with some others it was serious and formal. sort of.
I have also been in a couple plays in the past years. one of which was a musical pirate play. no major speaking parts or anything, but I did have a few lines. I took a kind of gruff, bewildered, and loopy approach to the character and his speaking patterns. the rest was singing.
at other times I have made recordings of myself reading out of the bible so I could listen to it while driving. it was also good practice with pronunciation and speaking clearly, and timing as well.
I've never had any formal voice education, i.e. schools, or any kind of classes, but I have had what I consider to be the best kind of education: the experience of actually doing voice-overs, and improv voice acting on my own.
I have been a concept artist for years. mostly just black ink pen's and paper. dealing mostly with cartoon/anime styled characters. I've never had any official work or accomplishments in this area. as far as how this would help in my voice acting, seeing different faces and characters helps me get ideas for varying personalities that a character might have judging from the way they might hold themselves, their demeanor, and so on.....
I am also a music composer. I've written a few OSTs (original soundtracks) for video games that don't exist (my own). conceptual art and stories I've created and made music for. aside from them, I'm constantly working on music, different styles and genres, all instrumental. whether on a computer based program, or with real instruments.
I was also a radio DJ for a short period in NJ.
