I started my media career as a morning radio show host, after successfully bribing my way into the station with food. (Those overnight jocks were hungry!) After a while I became the station’s production director too, which gave me great experience not only voicing commercials, but producing, directing, and editing them as well.
After leaving radio (through the back door with all my stuff in a box), I became a copywriter for an ad agency, where I also took on video production duties. Once the partners found out I’d worked in radio, they started having me voice some of the commercials I wrote, and that’s how I found my first voiceover clients.
I’ve been a full-time voice actor since 2015. Most of my work is in elearning and audiobooks, but I’ve worked in genres from in-show narration to videogames—the latter being one of my favorites, since I can write off gaming time as “research.” I also do a borderline unhealthy amount of stage acting with my local community theaters, and I moonlight as a standardized patient at the UC Davis Medical Center. (I never thought my job would involve showing that much skin.)
