About Gary
I'm a pilot who can make your words fly off the page.
Gary is living life large (6 ft. 4 in. / 230 pounds) in the Big Sky state of Montana. For the past nine years he's used his deep, authentic voice to narrate nearly 40 fiction and non-fiction audio books for a variety of publishers and individuals. Gary has used his vibrant, energetic, inspiring baritone in both fiction and nonfiction narration. He has trained with commercial, medical, automotive, and eLearning voice coaches.
Gary maintains a professional, acoustically treated home studio; he can easily get recordings turned around in 3 hours or less.
Gary holds degrees in Journalism and Radio-TV production, where he trained in using his natural, engaging, articulate voice. Fresh our of J-School, he started editing a series of books for a fledgling organization that was planning a mass ride for bicyclists who would pedal some 4000 miles across the United States to celebrate America’s bicentennial. That editing job led to 20 years as the organization’s Executive Director, building a staff and organization that now boasts more than 50,000 members worldwide (see https://www.adventurecycling.org).
Next Gary served as the staff director in Washington, DC for a bicycling/pedestrian organization, managing programs under a large grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and building a series of 4-day ProWalk/ProBike conferences that drew up to 900 participants every two years. Gary was invited to use his natural, casual, appealing voice at dozens of local workshops on bicycling and pedestrian advocacy across the United States.
During an 8-year stint with the transportation division of the National Park Service, Gary directed the division's web site and produced documents for parks across the country; many of these documents were included in congressional funding proposals for the NPS agency.
In 2015 Gary was ready to get back to his roots of broadcast journalism by building a voiceover business. (And frankly, he’d had enough of managing staff members and was ready to go it on his own.)
Gary is an avid pilot; he and his partner, Reva, own a classic Cessna 175 Skylark. They also enjoy hiking and biking in the beautiful Swan Valley of Montana where they make their home.
Growing up in the western states of Oregon, Washington, and Montana, Gary has a smooth neutral accent that won’t draw attention away from your message, but he can also deliver southern US, red-neck, cowboy, and other accents. His vocal influences include James Earl Jones, Richard Kiley, Peter Cullen, Sam Elliott, and David Attenborough
