A deadly mix of Irish and Italian was always a recipe for wild hand gesturing over rabid, rambling story-telling and led Didi to train for Radio Broadcasting in Toronto, Canada during the mid-80's when very few woman broke into that all-boys club.
Jobbing-out second year, dues were paid as the local TV station Friday night master control operator and weekend engineer/swing announcer at the now-defunct large market fringe radio station CHOO 1390. A rare female voice in the area at that time, Didi found a lot of work thrown her way--local PSAs, live obits, lost pet reports, and commercials commercials commercials. Full-time overnights brought more in-house production (recurring commercials for clients, radio plays, presentations), glad-handing for the station and community appearances. Lending her voice to other studios heralded a move away from live broadcasting that led to voice projects for friends, and then voice and writing projects for friends of friends who dabbled in film, many years of freelance commercial writing, and on into Internet technology and communication training. The commercial sector proved an eager recipient for good IVR voices, recorded business presentations, and communication skills training.
I'm a 20+ year veteran coach and mentor in live communication skills for commercial retail applications including call centre front line. Becoming the "sound" of the IVR phone system, writing scripts for and recording training videos, writing program documentation, style guides, and knowledgebase articles in my various Customer Care Operations capacities for the world's second largest domain registrar and Internet technology company where I continue to work full-time (Tucows.com) keeps my voice and copywriting skills fresh between freelance projects.
I continue to pursue voiceover for the love of it and my love affair with historical fantasy fuels a tandem long fiction career (under a pseudo).
I have my own in-home vocal recording booth that makes for nice, dry vocals.
