When my son joined the Marines in 2005, I realized I wanted to fulfill a dream to be an actor. Not wanting to be away from home and hearth, I decided to investigate voiceover. In one year, I completed all of the classes offered by the voice-acting team of James Alburger and Penny Abshire, (www.voiceacting.com)
During that time, I saw an administrative need and volunteered to assist them. This lead to becoming the Event Producer for two years of an international voice conference, VOICE (2007 and 2008). I met and worked with the top voice over artists and teachers in the industry. In 2014, I will re-join the team as Event Director.
Pat Fraley, (the most sought-after voice teacher in the country), saw me on stage at the 2008 conference doing a Russian accent and subsequently asked me to be his business partner. For the next two years, I had the privilege and delight to learn "at the feet of the master" and became fluent in all genres of voiceovers while producing 24 events a year with Pat. We narrated two Christian books together, and I was part of a series of short stories called, "Smokin' Mysteries", produced by Pat Fraley and Scott Brick.
I recently completed a year-long project with John Florian, founder of voiceoverxtra.com, called Voice Over Virtual, the one and only online virtual conference for voice actors. As Event Director, I built the platform which included over 80 rooms and vendor booths, and more than 600 content items (videos, PPT presentations, PDF's...). I also moderated 25 webinars with the likes of David Goldberg of EDGE Studio, Tara Tyler of Voice123, Rodney Saulsberry, Marc Cashman, and George Whittam to name a few.
I've attended 4 colleges and completed an associates degree in Drama and Music. I also hold a certification in Emergency Medical Technician and worked as an ambulance attendant and in the emergency room of Good Samaritan Hospital in Anaheim, California.
As a life-long seeker of knowledge, I've particpated in more classes than I can list here, and continue my education with top vo actors/coaches/agents such as Marc Cashman, Scott Brick, Marc Graue, Joan Baker, Rudy Gaskin, and Vanessa Gilbert. Part of my business association with Pat Fraley included writing demo copy, and working with students in creating what Pat calls a "killer demo".
I'm a certified SCUBA Instructor, and if it weren't for the "pitch and yaw" of a ship, which made me acutely aware of a little thing called "sea-sickness", I would have continued my study of Marine Biology.
In addition to the classes and education I mentioned in the "prior voice over experience" box, my recent accomplishments include narration of audiobooks through ACX, and European voiceover jobs.
I have a home studio. My equipment includes an Electro-Voice RE20 microphone, Audio-technica headphones. I use a Pro Tools recording program and have been narrator, director, editor and mastering editor for my audiobooks through ACX.
I am skilled in:
Sound engineering
Computer - basic and advanced
Communication (writing copy, customer relationships)
Business Entrepreneur – owned and operated 4 business, fluent in Quickbooks accounting programs
Self-Direction
I'm an avid reader, and have had a life long love affair with history. I've traveled to Europe and Central America, studying the people and cultures.
I'm a quick study and easily "become" the characters whom I portray. I love to immerse myself in the story, be it long-form narration, or a :30 commercial spot.
