I own my own studio and have been producing/recording my own music since my college days in the mid nineties. I have recorded promos for Pepsi, Calhoun Foods Groceries in Alabama, Montgomery Public School System in Alabama, DeKalb County Schools in Decatur, Ga., Clayton County Schools in Riverdale, Ga., Creative Financing Mortgage Co., Cummings Memorial Funeral Home, Heritage Barber and Style, Brins Wings, etc. I have also produced, recorded, and mixed albums for many Rap, R&B, and Gospel artist in the Metro Atlanta area. Even though I am a 7th grade Language Arts teacher in the DeKalb County School System, I use my talents regularly as seen on my Demo. The only problem I had creating the demo was choosing from the many promos that I have already created and doing so in 3 minutes or so. There are so many parts of my voice that I wanted to display without running over a reasonable time limit on the demo.
The only formal training that I have had consists of reading classes taken throughout my training as a teacher. Also, I have worked as an intern under several popular DJ’s on the radio while producing promos for Pepsi and Calhoun Foods in Montgomery, Al. I attribute my style and range to working with these radio personalities.
As a Language Arts teacher, I often refer to reading a story in our literature text as reading a script in an acting audition. I model how to read a story in a way that will engage and entice the listener to really get into the story. Further, I try to paint a picture of what is actually being read. I call it, “going to the theatre” if you will. I push my students to model what they observe while listening to my voice when they have the opportunity to read aloud in class. Also, I create tons of promos throughout the year for different school activities such as sporting events, band concerts, pep rallies, dances, talent shows, PTSA meetings, etc., which are played all over the county. Using voice-overs have become a regular way of life for me.
