I certainly cannot say that I have had vast experience in doing voice overs, but it appears that it may be a new calling. Recently, I was approached by a friend that was starting a new business and wanted a voice associated with new technology that the company was launching. I auditioned for the owner and his partner, and that very day we went to a recording studio and I did a recording for their phone systems, internet tutorials and a privately produced commercial that has been aired on the internet, radio and internationally. I had a blast and for the first time considered pursuing more opportunities in this field. Over the years,as a business owner, I have been told by many that they love talking to me over the phone because of my voice. I have received these type of compliments from secretaries and CEO's alike. For the past year, I have participated in conference calls for a nationwide nutritional company. Last month, February 2010, they asked me to be the permanent host of their conference calls. I have also had the opportunity to participate in radio shows and have thoroughly enjoyed it!!
While I have not had any formal training in doing voice overs, I have had considerable training in public speaking. I have participated in seminars, workshops, conventions and trainings done for audiences in excess of 12,000. In addition to being a public speaker, I have also participated in these events as a simultaneous translator, interpreting from English to Portuguese, and Portuguese to English. On many occasions, during these conventions, I participated in skits and live presentations that required me to take on the role of more than one person while I was also interpreting.
Because of my very recent interest in this field, I do not have any studio equipment yet. But the operative word in that phrase is "YET".
I love film and the arts. I also enjoy singing and have a pretty decent voice. I have always been a fan of drama and drama productions and have participated as an actress, as a costume designer and assisted the production supervisor. I am a marketing specialist by trade but have also had an extensive career as an international interpreter and as an educator. All of these positions require me to use my voice to the fullest extent. As a telephonic interpreter, I had to use voice inflection and modulation to more completely transmit the message I was conveying, many times in difficult, life preserving situations like brain surgery, evacuations and 911 calls.
