Allis has been a writer-announcer for BBC1 Television and continuity announcer for BBC national radio where she read the iconic Shipping Forecast on Radio 4. For more than a decade she was a newsreader on BBC World Service. She spent three years on BBC Radio 1 and was the news presenter, sidekick and raconteur on Radio 5's award-winning breakfast show.
Allis is highly professional and flexible and works across genres, material and styles. As a journalist, she contributes to broadcaster media, press and online titles. She also has a postgraduate degree in history from Oxford University and is a White Rose Scholar for Leeds University in modern history.
Allis does film and corporate narration, talking books, manuals, telephone voice systems such as 'Japan Airlines' and was the English voice host and translator for the Fine Leather goods trade fair in Paris. She speaks fluent French and translates scripts from French to English.
