For over thirty years, I was a public school teacher in Maryland. Upon my retirement, I began my education and training at the Columbia School of Broadcasting. My training included the basics of being a disc jockey, executing a variety of on-air formats, news, sports, and “specialty” reporting, and the delivery and interpretation of commercials.
I was a sports announcer at WMUC at the University of Maryland when it was only heard on campus. During my teaching experience, I had extensive opportunities for speaking to groups, from my daily classroom instruction, to speaking at assemblies and graduation. During soccer playoffs, I worked in the announcing booth, announcing starting line-ups, and asking attendees to stand for the National Anthem.
