I have been doing VO for over 30 years. I have been the voice of (literally) hundreds of spots over the years (RCA, Apple, Crest, scope, Toyota, Advil. etc) I have also narrated hundreds of industrial films and co-hosted the Dick Clark Rock & Roll Era with the man himself.
As an idea of my voice, you may remember one of my main accounts; Dial. "Aren't you glad you used Dial... don't you wish everybody did?" My wife is still in mourning for the day they changed their advertising.
I've also been used to help explain the difficult to explain; technical directions, philosophical differences and the, above mentioned IBM. I can make people understand what I'm telling them.
My voice is perfect for commercials, industrial films, audio books (I've had copius experience with large amounts of dialogue) plus I was a film actor for over 30 years with a career that stretched from the virginian to the last episode of Seinfeld.
If you want a character read, I can do that, too.
My Theater Arts degree from University of Wyoming got me started on the acting part of it all, I suppose, but it wasn't until I started working professionally in Los angeles that I got a chance to work with, and learn from, some of the best actors and announcers in the world. Besides OJT, I studied with Maurice Tobius, Susan Blu, Mel Blanc and have participated in many workshops at USC and UCLA.
I also started in this whole silly business as a musician, working my way through college singing with my guitar. That knowledge of pitch and timing, I feel, has helped me immensely over the years in how I approach copy.
I have a Snowball mic for auditions but have a state-of-the-art studio 15 minutes from my house. It contains such as; Neumann, Gefell and AKG microphones; API and Focusrite compressors as well as Apogee converters and can, basically, do anything in any format you may desire.
Besides my 30 year career in TV, films and VO I have also always written. It first it was screenplays, then moved to non-fiction books (3) then to 2 novels published by St. Martin's Press and more on the way. I was also a copywriter for Mel Blanc Productions for a year.
This writing experience, plus being an actor and musician... all help in my ability to realize the copy as it should be done.
