About Michael
Member sinceSep 22, 2012
As a classically trained baritone, I benefit from a strong familiarity with my vocal instrument. This familiarity has afforded me the awareness and control required to change my voice a great deal. I have always molded my singing voice to the needs of a choir, often being called upon to perform the highest tenor lines and deepest bass parts. Similarly, whether I'm affecting the frail and coarse voice of an extremely elderly man for a radio spot or rumbling deep and rich like thunder as I read the part of the hero in my latest audiobook, I mold my voice to the needs of the project.

Experience, training, and equipment
In 2006, I auditioned for Full Cast Audio, an award-winning studio that publishes fully casted fantasy/sci-fi and young adult audiobooks. Prior to that, I had some experience with local theatre, but had never done any voice acting before. The artistic director hired me "on a hunch", began giving me pro bono acting lessons, and then casted me as the lead in two of the next three productions. In 2009, I recorded, composed original music, and acted in an award-winning audiobook called The Entertainer and the Dybbuk. In 2012, a local ad agency began hiring me over their other actors due to the quality of my product, and my guaranteed Next Day Tracks. If you need less than 3 minutes read (with or without original music and sound effects) to be recorded and fully produced into radio-ready tracks, I can get it back to you in less than 24 hours.
In 2011, I received a B.A. in Music from the State University of New York where my studies focussed on classical vocal performance, music composition, and screenplay writing. I have 16 years of live and studio audio engineering experience including an internship at the Todd Hobin Studios in Syracuse, NY. I have sung or played a dozen instruments in countless amateur, academic, and professional ensembles since I picked up my first trumpet in 4th grade. To be fair, a short stint as a DJ on my college radio station probably fostered a desire to use my voice for more than just singing. In 2006, as part of the Syracuse-based band Razbari Sumthing, I won two Syracuse Area Music Awards for my songwriting, arranging, producing, and performance.
For small, quick projects, I get very good results with my home studio. Occasionally, I prefer to do my work at the Todd Hobin Studios. Between these two resources I have access to the following: Pro Tools and Samplitude mix/master software, Notion 3 music composition software, AudioTechnica, Shure, and Rode microphones, Presonus and Apogee digital interfaces, and Behringer mixers and speakers. The Todd Hobin Studios were constructed with a Live End/ Dead End design, structurally shielded from unwanted external radio waves.
I love to write music. Other than voice acting, it's what I do. I can write just about anything in any style with any instrumentation. I also really enjoy doing foley work... you know, sound effects. Sure, anyone can buy them online, but I often prefer to create them myself.
So, if you need a clear and confident voice for your ad, audiobook, or whatever I can read it and spice it up with some compelling original music and realistic sound effects.
