Most of my radio and TV career has involved broadcast news. However, when I came to Los Angeles, and joined AFTRA union stations I was called "talent" and took voice over lessons
from the legendary Joannie Becker (she does 18 voices including Lucille Ball). I had to really work at doing
voiceovers so they did not sound like a newsman reading a commercial. She took me to the top working with some of the best announcers in the biz, including Johnny Gun, Robert Parish (Paul Harvey), Thunder Jim Thornton (KNX, KGIL, MAGIC FM and now the new voice of "Wheel of Fortune," and Mike Bingo (LA Morning announcer in the 90's).
