I just turned 18 last year and am fairly new to the world of voices, but am an aspiring young adult looking forward to a bright future in this career. In my past, I have done many little small things that have helped model my choice to become a voice actor.
In 2006, I narrated a CD called "Prank Calls" for the company which I am now a part of called Spike Industries Inc. It was a comedy CD where I would come on every track and tell the comedians what kind of company would be called over the telephone, and they would have to improvise a short skit and situation to surprise the people on the other end of the line with. Not only did I host this hit game, but I took part in some of the actual improvisation calls, and really proved to myself that I can do different voices, no matter how different my regular speaking voice appears.
Prior to the Prank Calls CD, (Which is now heading into it's 2nd complete volume, I'm glad to say) I was part of a presentation for a company to promote the sale of a new DVD of the hit cartoon show, "Scooby-Doo: Where Are You?". I was lucky enough to provide the voices for Shaggy and Scooby Doo, two of the main characters, and got a feel for putting a voice behind animated characters.
Therefore, I think that my voice is great for cartoon/animated work, but I also make a great host and would be great working for commercials or some other narration.
Performing Arts: While I was growing up, I took part in the Missoula Children's Theatre several years in a row. I have a good amount of acting experience, which in turn helped my dialect, and I feel capable of reading text and interpreting it with an "Actor's Mind" and giving a voice that can not only sound the part, but feel the part as well.
Music: I have been a rock musician since a very early age as well. Recently, my band has been working up new charts, and we are very close to getting a record deal. With a strong powerful voice, I feel that working in the voice industry would show a different side of me that hides behind the rocker voice in my songs.
Media Production: I have been a strong leader and have directed a couple of films, some of which I participated in, including Spike Industries' production of "Guadalajara". I have had a little experience with video editing and a lot of experience with sound editing software, and feel very comfortable with making a professional recording with the proper equipment.
Communications: I am a karate instructor, and am comfortable with leading others while keeping passion and drive for what I do. My voice is strong and able to give orders without being too harsh, and it is very easy for me to get along with others.
I have a Radio Shack basic 33-3044 microphone with no compressors or anything. This is a great mic, however, it does pick up a lot of background noise, and that has proven to be a trouble area in some past recordings.
As far as sound mixing programs go, I have Acoustica Mixcraft 2.1, and feel VERY comfortable with that. If the program I would use (if any) resembled Mixcraft in any aspect, I believe that I have the knowledge to create professional recordings.
