i have a vast experience of film, radio and tv
work as well as teaching voice and speech in schools and colleges until i discovered velvet
voice studios in Dublin, in the guise of a master
engineer ( tommy ellis) who with his magic wand was able to blend my staccatto brit voice
...you can sample my voice on YOU TUBE in THE DEATH OF
MANHATTAN (DEATH)..HELLFIRE CLUB DUBLIN ( THE DEVIL) and SAVING BOB DYLAN ( BOB DYLAN)
I'm about to play Ivan Ivanivtch in THE COW for samizdat productions.
i trained to be an actor with malcome morrisson
( ex head of professionals drama at wiscosin university. USA) at the City literary institute. London. where Gordon luck taught us speech.
In Dublin i studied for my licentiate in Drama
teaching with a heavy accent on the voice at the Lienster school of music and drama.
And recently i attended voiceover workshops
at the velvetvoice studios in Dublin under
Tommy Ellis. Who recorded my showcase
i am a keen musician ie i play the clarinet and
recorder, as well as sing. I believe that a keen musical ear is essential to being a voiceover
artist, as it provides you with the talents of
rhythm, as also all the various lyrical qualities of tone.
For example some adds crave for a rap like
quality ie almost need to be sung. A person who is tonal deaf will, like the musician whom
cant read music, always be limited.
Its the rhythm and interesting tonal quality that
attracts the listener to take note of the product
being sold in the particular add.
Also as an actor you need the qualities of listening to what is being demanded of you, as
when being directed in a play...its essential you
( as in my sales experience) know how to target your audience ie their age, socio-economic factors, gender etc.
I also write for radio, which helps me appreciate the literary skills in any given script.
As also my ( as an actor) passion for the written word and its due vocal expression is
essential for the fine subtle ironies of humor
and the selling technique of radio and tv advertising.
