"Growing up, my family almost never had music in the house. But there was always a book on tape playing somewhere. So, as a child I had a very extensive vocabulary for my age, but didn't know any songs beyond what I learned from Girl Scouts and my parents old folk music records. But to this day I can recite the entire first page of The Hobbit because I wore that cassette tape so thin the narrator eventually sounded drunk. This started my fascination with, and love of, the recorded word."
