In creating the voices of the phone system for Papa John's Northeast Regional Office I made a few mistakes and had to re-do parts. This became funny as I sat at my desk saying the same name over and over again. I just wanted it to be perfect. I first noticed what a calm voice can do as a baby-sitter in my teens. I would sing looking up a grand staircase to sooth the children at the top of the stairs. My favorite song was Leo Koetke's "May you never lay your head down, without a hand to hold".
As of this writing I am not yet a professional voice-over character. When I listen to commercials, there are times when the voices are extremely, irritatingly incongruent with the objective of the ad. For example, a teen with no emotion is supposed to be the voice of a concerned parent? Of course, I may not be able to be the absolute best voice talent, but, with some patience, I intend to do the best possible. I have always heard the subtle voices on the airwaves and judged their character, good or bad. I t is very distracting to have voice with no feeling.
I have been a music person my entire life. I took a course in Piano in college and guitar on my own my entire adult life. My favorite artists include Lucinda Williams, Joan Baez, and Joni Mitchell... I haven't been confident enough to sing in front of people, but I can speak. I have been a phone counselor for La Leche League, (league of breast feeding mothers). As an office manager, telephone skills were a must. I have even answered a pizza delivery phone. Creativity is a way of life. Thank you for your consideration.
