I'm a women's fiction writer who specializes in voices. I don't even care about the plot half the time, I just want to write dialogue. I do all of my own voices, but I'm pretty sure I could do yours too. I've been known to get caught doing a few of my friends but there's nothing I can do about it. It just comes out.
Before writing novels ("She's Got Issues" and "Miss Understanding" both HarperCollins/Avon) I was a freelance promotion writer for Vogue, Vanity Fair and Glamour in the 90's, and before that I was the Promotion CopyChief for Mademoiselle Magazine (1985-87). It was there that I began imitating the voices around me, but I've always had a baby voice. It comes in handy, let me tell you, but I think it's time to start using it for more serious pursuits.
Oh, and don't worry about my age. If you hear me, you'll swear I'm under 10!
I have a B.S. from Boston University in Communications, studied at the American College in Paris, where I had a journalism internship at the Herald Tribue and started doing graduate work at the Bank Street College of Education in New York, but stopped when I had my first child.
I do not have my own studio, but I have access to studios, one of which is the David Bennett Studio in Englewood, NJ.
All I can tell you is that my husband thought there was something wrong with me when he first met me because I only talked baby talk. I didn't even know I was doing it, it had become such a habit. I do so many children's and female voices, I can't even define myself. But I'm insanely hard working and will pretty much do whatever voice you want. My lack of experience is a plus because I'm dying to get started! The best way to use me would be to read audio children's books or any other book character. My writing experience has prepared me for natural speech patterns and personality driven characters.
