Over the past year I have been learning more about this industry. Now that I have all the equipment I require, I will be doing some demos over the next few months.
Early on in my career I was trained by Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator for large companies here in Canada. As well as answering clients, I have recorded voicemail messages for incoming calls for various departments within one of those companies. From childhood, I have had voice training in music and diction. From age four I have performed in public and presently sing at two local piano parlours and periodically at weddings, parties and concerts. Due to the position I presently hold with the company I am employed by, I regularly speak in front of audiences. My timing when telling jokes or relaying stories has been described as excellent, which I credit to my musical training.
My setup consists of a "quiet room" in my home, with suitable acoustic insulation for noise-free recording. The equipment includes a clone P4 / 3.4G with a SB-Audigy2 sound card, using the kX driver/mixer, located in the next room. Applications installed consist of GoldWave and Audacity audio editors, dbpoweramp file converter, along with various audio utilities, such as software peak detectors, etc. A DSL connection handles Internet access and file transfers. A CD/DVD burner is also available for creating "snail mail" delivered demos.
The heart of my audio equipment is a custom built, ultra low-noise preamp/mixer/amplifier console, compliments of an Electronics Engineer friend. The room is also powered from a separate, filtered AC circuit branch. I have two mics, a Shure SM58 and a Behringer C3 Condenser. My headphones are Sony model MDR7506 and my monitor speakers are M-Audio SP5B.
My writing skills are above average and four years ago I wrote a script, music and lyrics for a play which was performed by a local choir group. It was a comedy and was very well received by everyone.
Two years ago, I put together a concert to aid the orphans of the Asian tsunami by recruiting much talent throughout the city in which I live. It was very successful and was able to present a large monetary donation to The Salvation Army to help aid them with their work with the orphans.
I mention this in order to indicate that I am not shy when it comes to taking on large or small projects and seeing them through to fruition.
