I "was" a singer and took two years of private professional voice lessons, working on breath support, inflection, coloring, pitch changing, and dexterity in my voice.
I taught primary (mostly kindergarten) grades for eleven years, where my voice was my "tool" to keep the little five year olds "entertained" all day while learning. I so enjoyed using my voice, changing inflections, accents, pitches, and using drama, to captivate the youngsters (with the attention span of a gnat - does a gnat have an attention span?)
My favorite part of the day was always Read Aloud - where we would gather on the rug and I would read them wonderful books. They were always best behaved while involved in the stories I would bring alive for them.
So, as I leave singing. and take a break from teaching, I look forward to doing something for me - Voice Over work. I am pursuing voice over classes and reading as much as I can about it.
I graduated for University of California in San Diego (Do I have to tell the year??)
I have ALWAYS loved singing and been in choirs and performed in church. I was the female singer in a local band for two years and took private, professional voice lessons for two years.
I have many years of experience in education, where I daily used my voice for reading and "entertaining" instruction. Also, I am comfortable speaking professionally, in front of various PTA's and adults gathering for inservices and orientations at elementary schools.
I work at home with our MAC OS X, my ol' faithful Shure SM 58 microphone,
and a new M-Audio FireWire Solo.
VOICE is just plain fun! I have LOVED using my voice with a bunch of five year old kindergarteners for the past eleven years. I love how books and stories can educate and entertain (OK, and sell products !!). I love music and singing and using my voice. I have three boys who think it is so funny that their mom is trying to get into voice over work at this time in her life. But, wouldn't that just be awesome, I recently said to myself, if while those three monkeys are off at school, and when the house is SO UNusually peaceful and quiet, I can have a career change, and do voice overs! Wouldn't that be grand!! A girl can dream, can't she?!
