It all started at a random dinner party where I was telling a story which included revving a bike and an Australian accent. Or maybe it started at a younger age when I'd pick up the home phone (yes, a landline) and the caller would say 'you know Lydia, you have such a nice voice, you could totally get work speaking'. OR maybe it started even earlier when as a child I would watch Cartoon Network and dream of being the voice of a sassy animated character.
From that dinner party I was introduced to a recording studio and the rest is history. I may have been gifted with a nice voice but through experience I learned how much technique and skill go into great voice actors. I had the privilege of sitting next to voice actors who had been working in the industry for years who were able to guide me along and challenge me to be the best I can be.
Having started my career in Hong Kong where there aren't many English voice actors I flew up the ladder very quickly. I was sent to studio to studio where I met a lot of clients and producers. I may look young but I have a professionalism and maturity that speaks loud of my extensive experience in the industry. I show up early, get the job done with a smile and build real relationships with my clients who often get invited back for future projects.
I understand this business is all about people; it's about the client, it's about the customer, it's about engaging with one another. And I pride myself for my interpersonal skills. I also understand that from the clients seat this is unfamiliar to you; timing, tone etc. may be something you haven't considered or know exactly how to direct. That's alright, I've worked on so many projects that I know how to vary the tone to the slightest, I know how to emphasize keywords, I know how to speed up the script without changing the tone. Don't stress, this is my job, my livelihood and my passion, leave the work to me! I look forward to connecting and working together!
Bachelor of Music majoring in vocals.
Mic - Rode NT1
Interface - H5
Software - Cubase, Wavelab
I have a Bachelor Degree of Music where I majored in vocals. If you require a singing voice over for your commercial or elearning project I am your girl! Not to mention the vocal training and technique that I developed as a result of my degree.
I also work as an onscreen actress in which my job is to communicate a message to an audience. I understand that voice over is more than just reading words but rather it is to communicate, to engage.
I've voiced countless radio PSAs that had very specific timing for example some couldn't be any longer or shorter than 30 secs long, even 29.5 seconds wasn't good enough. Occasionally the copywriter didn't estimate how many words were in the script and I'd have to read it quickly but calmly. 100% of the time I would deliver! It is my job to make your project come to life and to make sure you don't need to stress. This is my job, my livelihood and my passion, leave the work to me!
