My phone# is (850)730-6307
I am a hobbyist narrator considering taking my hobby to a higher level. I sometimes make recordings of myself reading books, as my samples attest. This has been a private amusement until recently. When demonstrating my narration for some friends they liked my skills enough to suggest that I pursue this as a career. So, I stumbled upon this site, put together a profile, and here we are.
I will probably take any job. Don't hesitate to throw an offer my way. The only equipment I have is my phone, with which my samples were made. Upgrading to something fancier might not be possible. I am located in northern Florida but would be willing to travel to a studio anywhere in the USA or Canada, if the job were appealing.
The projects most suited to my style, as well as technical and experiential limitations, would be audiobook recordings for independent/self-published authors. Such people are without the means of hiring veteran performers, nor can they easily find someone willing to put so much time into a venture unlikely to reach a massive audience. However:
My rates are adjustable. Contact me and we will discuss details. I am sensitive to what Mr. Micawber would call the "pecuniary emoluments" of a struggling author.
As for time investment, if I believe that your book is worth bringing to aural life, I will spend as much time as needed to do so.
One thing setting me apart from most narrators is my willingness to read "controversial" material. If you've got a manifesto that describes your plan to start the next revolution (whatever you conceive it to be, or whatever your motivation for doing so is), I'll read it. Horror novel with gratuitous violence? I'll read that, too. Erotic imaginings of forbidden desire? Sure. Right now I am not in a position to sneeze at anything.
My samples contain stray errors. These extensive readings were all done in one take and have undergone no editing. They are presented as fair representations of how I sound, but are not meant as finished products. All of this was done for fun before I had any thought of constructing a portfolio. If I am being paid, I will permit myself no mistakes.
EDIT: It has been almost a year since I have uploaded anything to this page, and the two recordings I provided were not of any significance to me, just what I happened to have on hand. (The mispronunciations of place names in The Short-Timers is so embarrassing that it should probably be taken down.) Even then when writing my resume I had no real hopes of turning this into a job and subsequently no jobs have been offered. That is okay.
But now I have found a new purpose for this site. I have recently been having a lot of fun doing live stream narrations elsewhere which my friend Xayliah (along with some other people, occasionally) tunes into to hear (and to look at my pretty face.) Having a live person to actually listen revived my interest in doing this, which had never really been developed past the beginning stage. Commercial ambitions aside, this is a great place to host audio files. So, for Xayliah and the few others who might be interested I will be expanding my Voice123 portfolio.
Special shout-out to Hannah from New Zealand. I think you might like The Thing on the Doorstep. This file was larger than allowed, so it had to be split into two, although the reading was done in one take (as they all are). Make sure you start with part one. And thank you for your interest.
