Working at a paging company(Metrocall), I filled in to help cover the phones and office intercom/paging system when the receptionist didn't make it to work. All my co-workers commented what a calming, soothing voice I had amidst the craziness of the paging industry. A few co-workers went so far as to say I should do somthing big with my voice and get it "on the air." (I looked into a small stint with a local cable company and announced vendor sponsors for Breast Cancer Awareness.) As time went on I would be called upon to record greetings for customers on their pagers both for personal and professional needs. Senior personnel would ask me to record their phone greetings on their voice mail systems. Our Telco department had me record phonetree IVR recordings for all 3 of the company's call centers: Seattle, Pensacola, Washington DC. As well, the Marketing department used my voice for their promotions during "hold" time. These promotions catered to diverse populations requiring me to act and be versatile in my voice announcing.
Recently I worked at the United Way of America in the Finance Department. While there the UWA contracted a voice-over talent with the idea of sounding young & energetic. I left a message on our Chief Executive's voicemail with a sample of what I did at Metrocall but with a little more emphasis on "care", "community warmth". Unfortunately UWA was contracted to use the same artist, however, it was re-recorded to a more toned-down, caring greeting, an attempt to mirror my voice.
I volunteer my time lectoring church readings. Again, I receive humbling, warm comments of how soothing and trusting my voice comes across.
Participated in a voice workshop held in Washington DC. Have performed in community theater.
Usage of the English language has been a pet peeve of mine for years while having been exposed to various accents around the country. Lousiville, KY, Fargo, ND, Washington DC area, New York, Texas, and Mexico. Have you heard a Southern drawl speak Spanish? lol! I can do it! Call me 240.393.5666
