Beginning as a young child in the early 1970's with his family's portable cassette recorder and microphone Johnny spent days on end producing characters, epic fantasy story lines, interviews, and ad-lib comedy sketches. He spent years perfecting film, video, acting, and comedy work and continuously produces volumes of screenplays and stories.
His love of music was undeniable and he composed, sang and played songs by ear from the age of four onward.
At the age of nine he finally convinced his parents to allow him formal piano lessons. His three older siblings were provided piano lessons many years before and had quickly lost interest thus creating his parent's initial reluctance.
By ten years old (1977) he formed a barbershop quartet which performed "Lida Rose" from 'The Music Man' at his grade school talent show, quickly giving rise to the formation of his earliest rock and folk music groups which began recording professionally in 1980.
Johnny became a frequent musical and comedy guest (known as “Johnny Rage”) on Seattle radio’s KZOK 102.5 f.m. (1990, ‘The Me and Him Show’) which featured Kent Voss, and his former partner Jimmy Kimmel (currently host of ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’).
He is a veteran vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, band leader, has produced and performed for dozens of recording sessions, has performed musically at Seattle’s Goodwill Games (1990), Bumbershoot festival of the arts (Sept. 4, 1992), numerous Northwest Area Music Awards concerts (1989 through 1994), dozens of music venues (1980 to present), and was featured in a guest appearance (with his band Sea of Black) singing his own musical composition "You're Gone" on the hit television series ‘Northern Exposure’ (1994, Season 5, Episode #68: ‘A River Doesn’t Run Through It’; in a scene starring a very young Jack Black and Janine Turner).
Johnny has owned and operated extensive variations of both analog and digital recording equipment, all classes of musical instrumentation, amplification, mic-ing, p.a., and electronic gear since the mid 1980's.
He has extensive hands on experience and has been formally and professionally trained in all forms of audio applications; as well as having worked with many world class producers and engineers, including: renowned musical performer and producer Enrique Henao (Philips of Holland and Henao/Wagner Studios), sound engineer/instructor Tom Deitz (Seattle, WA), Tom Brown (former sound engineer for RCA in Nashville, TN; currently owner of Hear Here Studios, in Quilcene, WA), Ross Harney and Michael Gardner (formerly of American Music, Seattle, WA) and the talented staff of numerous, world class recording studios.
Johnny credits all of the world class artists, producers, technicians, family, and friends who have believed in him and dedicated their time, support, and expertise to all of his artistic endeavors.
Johnny is currently operating a digital recording studio from his home using Logic Pro for all of his audio production services.
He uses Rode and AKG condenser microphones, and minimally processes his vocals through an Aphex model 204 Aural Exciter/Optical Big Bottom.
Johnny has spent significant time producing creative written works, print and radio advertising, and can easily provide excellent copy for all of your professional and promotional needs.
