I have been doing Theatre for nearly 20 years, usually playing characters above and outside my usual “age-range” thereby actually stretching my age range. I have done several Shakespearean productions (Including The Winter’s Tale, DVD is available through “Mediapipeline”), several musicals and countless comedies and “straight plays”. I have also had my voice used for 2 shows as a “letter reading monologue” and as “the computer” All productions were in Jacksonville Florida at Theatre Jax, Jacksonville University (where I received my BA in Theatre performance), and Nathan H Wilson center for the Arts.
While at Jacksonville University, I took a Sound class with professor Steve Smith. It was mostly a technical course but, for a few weeks voice and the interfaces used were the focus of his lesson plan. It was during this time that I realized that my voice had a unique quality.
Also at JU, I took several voice classes including general lessons in breathing to sing for an auditorium and a course in Voice and diction. Each Musical that I was involved in, was a multi-departmental effort- teaching while rehearsing in Music, dance and acting.
As I have already mentioned Theatre, I must also note that I have taken a very freelance approach to my own film making. This was brought on by the 2 Experimental Film courses taken at JU, it was very enlightening to see new ways of filming and using those media’s as fixed art.
I believe also that my work ethic is a skill very worth noting- for show calls, I believe that if your aren’t 15 minutes early, then you are late. I have followed a similar pattern at all of my other jobs.
