I am a 20 year radio veteran who started when I was 17. I was interested mostly in being on the air, which I was. For many years, I concentrated solely on my radio shows but would be asked to do commercial voice over stuff as added duties to the job. I realized that what I was doing could turn into something more, so I began reaching out to radio stations to become their main voice over talent. After landing a few of stations, I began experimenting with my vocal ranges and found out I could do quite a few voices. I found myself as the voice for a concert venue in San Antonio, Texas by using an over the top truck rally type of voice. That gig lead to becoming the co-lead voice for a rock station in San Antonio as well. At this point work was coming in at a steady pace and I also took a job as a host for a country radio station in Dallas. This lead to me realizing I was able to pull off a pretty decent country accent on a nightly basis and eventually developed into a character named Jake Daniels. This gig lead to a love of acting and refining my skills to be polished for commercial voice over and film.
After high school I attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas which is a very small town in east Texas. I was studying communications when I went to the local radio station to get a job. It was at that point that I was hired to be a morning show sidekick and do commercials for the station. However, the day that I started, I was fired because the station was purchased by a new owner. But I was determined to make my way in the business with or without a degree. I moved back to Dallas where I harassed local radio personality Kidd Kraddick until he hired me to be on his staff. It was then that I got my start in the business. Bottom line, I didnt take VO classes or have any formal training. I learned it all by doing it on my own.
I am no engineer but I have access to one of the most dynamic studios on the planet.
