From the mid 1980's to the early 90's I was the morning DJ on an AM country radio station. The station owner offered me the job after hearing my voice in a community theatre play. I also wrote the copy and produced the radio spots for over 60 business clients who advertised on the station. I did voiceovers for special promotional events sponsored by the station. Some of the voice over work I did involved voice acting, where I would write the vignette and produce it in studio. Also worked at an FM station for several years doing news and weather on the morning show and writing and producing radio voiceovers and radio ad spots for our business clients.
For a number of years I was active in local community theatre plays and musicals, which gave me opportunities to use my voice in different ways depending on the character I was portraying. I have also been a singer/songwriter and saxophone player for over 30 years and I still perform with a musical group today. The two radio stations I worked for were WBRM in Marion, NC and WECR-FM in Boone, NC.
Being a songwriter, I would sometimes compose jingles for my advertising clients, radio spots. Using my acting skills, I have the ability to record books with a voice that is pleasant to the ear as well as expressive in telling the story in a meaningful and believable way, with emotion. As a native Ohioan, I have the so-called "non-accent" common to people from the midwest.
