My brother and I used to make recordings when we were very young, little radio programs. That was before a video camera joined our family. Then we had to make intros to our little movies, with appropriate voice work. I had been raised on everything from Bugs Bunny to Red Skelton, and watched more TV than my mother preferred- all the different voices out there stuck in my head.
I started by doing some promos for my old band, which aired on local cable channels. Word of mouth got me some work for a Houston-area rap artist doing the movie guy voice. A friend contracted me to do some pronunciation recordings for a learning enhancement program. Most recently I've worked for a video game company- a character for a game currently in production and their on-hold message. I have been the voice for many of my friends' voice mail over the years.
I'm essentially new to the business, being non-union and working as a non-professional. But after being told I should have started years ago, I figured better late than never. So, put my big mouth in your next project!
I started my college career in Mass Comm and worked on the AM station my first semester, fall of 1988. I brought all the whimsy, professionalism, and character I could fit into every shift. Eventually I would leave university and attend the Art Institute, where I graduated with an associate's in their (now defunct) Music Business/Video Production program in the summer of 1994. I'd played in bands since the end of high school, and spent the '90s and early 00's performing live and recording as a guitarist with a number of bands. As well, with my expanded 4-track mobile studio, I recorded my own band and others, including some slapped-together radio-style skits.
I've worked in medical records/filing, as a mid- to light-freight delivery driver, managed a video store for almost ten years, built out-of-box displays and bicycles for major retailers, and hung a few pieces of priceless art for the local elite.
