My voice is one of my most outstanding features.
I have hosted many events, voiced numerous projects and have promoted exciting and innovative products.
Specifically, I have:
- promoted lifestyle and food shows on Living Channel, Food TV and Choice TV
- encouraged viewers to enter competitions
- narrated corporate videos for banks such as Westpac
- endorsed products such as Bio Mag
- narrated television documentaries
- interviewed international stars like Pamela Stephenson, Rick Stein and Sir Russell Coutts
I engage listeners with my warm, attractive and trusting voice.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in History from Canterbury University in Christchurch and a Diploma of Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education.
I taught Physical Education at secondary school, Avonside Girls High School in Christchurch, for one year before moving to Auckland for a career in Television.
David Englands voice training school based on the BBC model of announciation and diction, gave me a great foundation for 10 years on prime time news anchoring sports at TVNZ.
I spent 10 years on TV with TVNZ, 5 years on the Living Channel and Food TV and the past year with Choice TV.
My experience and background is largely in television but I had a short time (2 years)on radio at the Radio Network as a breakfast show DJ.
I have no voice equipment but am happy to go to any sound engineer recommended.
I have one that I trust implicitly and who engineered my demo.
I have a strong background in Health and fitness.
I wrote a book called 'April Loses It' in 2012 about weight loss and fitness. It was a best seller for 4 weeks.
I am story producer on reality shows and have directed and produced interstitils for food tv and the living channel.
As well as being an award winning television presenter, I have hosted live sports coverages for TVNZ from the Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000), Commonwealth Games (Victoria 1994, Kuala lumpar 1998 and Manchester 2003) and Netball World Champs since 1995.
I also talent coach new hopefuls on the art of television presenting, encouraging them to be more engaging on camera.
Above all, I am a mother of a 9 year old girl and 7 year old boy who hosts one tour around the world for World Journeys. This year, I am off to the Red Sea at the end of March with 23 kiwis.
As a result, I have travelled extensively through sport, work and recreationally and when I cruise Antarctic next year, I will happily have set foot on every continent in the world.
