I have done mostly studio work for most of my career working for agencies here in the UK, first in the Manchester area and in the South of England for the last 10 years. I started with corporate or product presentations and have added museum audio-guides, product instructions, product description, announcements, telephone tags. I am working on setting up my own recording studio to enhance my daily practice and to be readily available to clients.
I have a degree in Modern Philology (English-Spanish) and have studied German, French, Old Hebrew and Old Icelandic.
I started working as a translator and slowly came into contact with the world of the voice over. It intrigued me and captivated me in equal measure but I knew that I had to work hard to become an accomplished voice artist. I love languages and most things communication-related. I have always enjoyed drama and took part in plays at school and University. This helped me greatly in my pursuit of the voice over as a career. I have trained with colleagues and maestros of the art (like Daniel Pageon for whom I hold great admiration) I also like singing -though never as a soloist, and playing the guitar. Music is very important to me and whether translating or preparing for a voice over job, I thoroughly enjoy its company.
I don't owe my own recording studio but have easy access to two nearby where I have worked for years.
I am in the process of setting up my own small studio and for this I am gathering the knowledge and the equipment. Have a few ideas for microphones recommended by other colleagues but it is still a work in progress since i want to get it right first time. I like technology and have gained a great deal of skill since working for On24 as a webcast manager. Their very experienced and enthusiastic sound and vision specialists have been extremely helpful with all matters technical.
I take a lot of pride in what I do and I am my most fierce critic. I prefer to have time in advance to give the text the best quality possible but I am also good at strict deadlines and time constraints. I am constantly evolving and moving with current technology. It is a great time to be in the video and webcasting industry and as a translator I believe I can not only provide the right voice but the perfect insight into the cultural and sociological nuances of the target audience.
