TOM’S BUSINESS PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE:
Tom’s many years of experience as a voice-over coach and demo producer taught him to approach copy with the eyes of a writer/producer, so his first read often is exactly what the client is looking for. Tom has a philosophy of bringing humor, trust, and a personal connection into his client relationships. And his BBA in Marketing from the University of Michigan allows Tom to understand you and your clients’ business point of view much better than the average actor wannabe or radio DJ. Tom works VERY efficiently, and will work overtime if needed to meet your deadline.
Tom Test has a University of Michigan BBA, but cheerfully left the corporate world in the late 1980s. He graduated from Chicago improv school The Player’s Workshop in 1989, which culminated in a standing-room only performance on the Second City main stage, where Tom got big laughs in his improv scenes. He later took improv classes at Second City’s Training Center with legendary instructors such as Marty DeMaat, Norm Holly and Don DePollo.
Tom began his professional voice-over career in 1989, acting as a high school kid for a SportMart radio campaign. Since then he has voiced thousands of radio/TV spots, some of which have won Telly Awards (Fidelity Federal Savings, N. Mississippi Health Care and Mayo Clinic-owned Franciscan Skemp Health System). Tom was the talent for a TV/radio/print campaign for the country’s largest furniture store – Nebraska Furniture Mart – which won an award for “Watchability,” defined as “willingness to watch the entire spot rather than change the channel.”
VOICE ON, TOM’S BROADCAST-QUALITY STUDIO:
Tom founded his own Chicago-based broadcast-quality recording studio in 2003, and since then has recorded thousands of radio/TV spots and corporate narrations for clients such as Shell Oil, United Airlines, Bank of America, GE and many other Fortune 1000 firms. Take a look at the video linked here for a peek at Tom’s studio, as well as his collection of vintage stereo gear and plastic model airplanes (he has a very understanding wife…): https://vimeo.com/67915251
Tom can deliver your audio in the format of your choice in 24 hours or less. He has Source Connect and ipDTL as software alternatives to ISDN. He is also able to use a reliable bridging service to connect with another studio’s ISDN codec, at no additional fee.
Tom’s primary mics are the Sennheiser 416 for radio/TV work, and the Gefell M930 used mostly for corporate and e-Learning narrations. The mics are powered by a UK boutique preamp, the Safesoundaudio Tracking Toolbox. Tom works from a custom-built sound booth for super-clean audio.
Nearly all of the material you will hear on Tom’s demos was recorded and produced at Voices On Studio.

My Voice Experience
Tom Test has been one of the top male voice-over talents in the Midwest since 1989. He started his own private studio “Voices On” in 2003 and has since voiced hundreds of projects: national TV spots, e-Learning projects, Explainer White Board VOs, PowerPoint narrations, political spots for Democratic candidates, college-level textbooks, and corporate narrations.
He has voiced quite a few Telly (and other) award-winning spots in his 25+ year career for clients like Fidelity Federal Savings, N. Mississippi Health Care and Mayo Clinic-owned Franciscan Skemp Health System, and has had dozens of Fortune 1000 clients. Tom has also been a much-in-demand voice-over coach and demo producer.
Tom has been coached by Marice Tobias from Los Angeles, THE top VO coach in the country. He owes his success primarily to the years of bi-weekly practice groups he led in the mid-90's, where Tom really honed my craft.
Tom was also a voice-over coach and demo producer for a decade (until he just got too busy as a talent). He is a graduate of the Player's Workshop Improv program, and have taken improv classes at Second City, and acting classes at the Audition Studio, Act One, and Victory Gardens.

Tom uses the full version of Source Connect as an ISDN alternative, as well as ipDTL. Tom does have access to a long-time pro studio in downtown Chicago, ARU, with very reasonable rates for ISDN. Voices On Studio offers broadcast-quality sound, and national TV campaigns have been recorded from here.
