From Business to Fun...Straight &Character Voices

Voice Description

I can succesfully manipulate my voice to make it sound any particular way from smooth & warm (even "sexy") for narrations, commercials or movie trailers to fun cartoon-like voices & sounds/sound-effects. As a vocalist for many years, I've learned to use my vocal chords as an instrument-of-sorts (some say I also have quite a nice singing voice, from smooth to blues to rock'n'roll).

For years I've admired such people as Jack Angel (pick any cartoon from the '80's or simply watch "A.I." wherein he "plays" the voice of "Teddy", the constant friend/companion to the movies' main protagonist "David" played by Haley Joel Osment) and Rory O'Shea (a fellow Canadian who's made quite an impressive name for himself in this very field of work) to the point where I wanted to see myself following a similar career-path. Even before that happened, I'd always "done voices" for my friends and family over the years; it's only been lately that I've realized it can be a viable vocation.

Accents, Impersonations, Characters and Dialects

When speaking in English with a "foreign" dialect, my accent/dialect & diction are usually very nearly perfect for the language in question. A sampling of this would be: Russian, Spanish, German, Italian, Dutch and even some Japanese (I studied Japan, it's people and their language for a year, but that was in Grade six). To be honest I do not speak any of these languages fluently and, truthfully, I may not be able to carry on a conversation in them either, BUT given a script, I know I would have very little (if any) trouble at all delivering the needed VO...I'm an excellent mimic!!!

My "character" voices comprise of both real people such as Michael Caine, Eddie Murphy, former President of the United States George Bush Sr., Arnold Swartzenegger (both a "real" version & a stylized "caricature" of his famous tones), Carol Channing, Christopher Walken and Sean Connery (to name but a few) and characters from movies and television, the likes of "Mrs. Doubtfire" (played by Robin Williams), "Mr. Haney" of "Green Acres" fame (played by Pat Buttram), "Floyd-the-Barber" from "Andy of Mayberry" (played by Howard McNear) as well as several from various cartoons including, but not limited to "Shrek" & "Donkey" from the "Shrek" movies. I can also currently imitate approximately 30 character voices from the cartoon "The Simpsons" (A more complete list of all voices & cartoons can be made available upon request).

My Voice Experience

For years I've admired such people as Jack Angel (pick any cartoon from the '80's or simply watch "A.I." wherein he "plays" the voice of "Teddy", the constant friend/companion to the movies' main protagonist "David" played by Haley Joel Osment) and Rory O'Shea (a fellow Canadian who's made quite an impressive name for himself in this very field of work) to the point where I wanted to see myself following a similar career-path. Even before that happened, I'd always "done voices" for my friends and family over the years; it's only been lately that I've realized it can be a viable vocation.

My Training

I've had several years experience as an Actor (14yrs), Musician (27yrs), Audio Engineer (22yrs) and Recording Studio Owner (8yrs) as well as several, more "run-of-the-mill" jobs such as Tech Support for one of "The Big Two" computer companies. I've also worked with some local and/or regional Telecommunication Companies as a Customer Service Representative and have owned several Recording Studios, in both a Facility-setting and Mobile Units. Notably, I've always been a "tinkerer", having created from scratch, things like (arguably) the first dual-deck cassette recorder/radio on the window-sill of my bedroom when I was 12 or 13, and (again, arguably) the Worlds' most expensive alarm clock (approximately $4500.00CAN+/-). (Details of this can be requested, if the need is that great...but why would it, in a Voice-Over capacity?!?)
