I am a rock singer seeking commercial application for my speaking and singing voice. I have my own record out (Between the One and The Nine, EMI 1996), and one on an indie called "Candelabra Cadabra". A third is due out this year (2006, Double Standards). My debut album sold 300,000+ copies worldwide and one single "Treat Me Like Dirt" was #1 in Croatia! I was on both The Tonite Show (Leno) (May, 1996) and The Late Show (Letterman)(Nov 96). I have toured the world opening for such diverse acts as Chris Isaak, Paul Westerberg, The Wallflowers, The Black Crowes. I've also played with Pat Benetar, Garbage, No Doubt, Jewel, Jill Sobule, many others. My version of "Kung Fu Fighting" was featured prominently in Chris Farley's Beverly Hills Ninja. Commercial jingles I've recorded include NBC's Women Who Rock themesong which I wrote and sang, a parody of American Pie "Bye bye telemarketing guy" for Big Foote music..rerecorded Foreigner song"Urgent" w/ Mick Jones for commercial purposes, have demoed for JSM, WAX, Compositions and other NYC jingle houses. Live performances include The Bottom Line NYC with Willie Nyle, Tish & Snookie, (pick a name act in NYC and we have shared a stage in one way or another. I've sang backup vocals for dozens of local signed and unsigned acts, live and on record. I am a quick study, easy (fun) to work with, and very versatile.
It all started in 1981 when Shirley Lemon (Andrea McArdle who was playing Annie on bway at the time) was my vocal coach. I was 9 years old, and after singing "The Rainbow Connection" a dozen times, I realized I did NOT want to sing in the Broadway style, though I could. I was much more interested in the vocal stylings of rock acts then featured on radio; Blondie, Pat Benetar, Joan Jett, Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons). Also The Ramones, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin.. What stood out to me was the individual style of each of these unique voices. This has always been the crucial je ne sais quoi golden mean to me which kept me interested in an artist for any length of time. Though I am mostly self taught, I attended NGSW, National Guitar Summer Workshop in the late 80s and studied with some of the greatest Guitar players of their day.
I studied painting and illustration in college (BFA from Boston University and Parsons School of Design NYC/Paris (where I learned to speak French). It was summer of 1992 when I really began to hone my craft as a singer/songwriter/guitarist. I'm not your average "little folkie strummer girl" (although I can and do play acoustic guitar in the styles of Bert Jansch/Jimmy Page) I am a kick ass electric rock guitar player.
I am a free lance illustrator, and I also do caricatures for corporate/private events!
I am told my voice is warm, inviting and very identifyable!
