Voice Description

My voice can be the all-business sound of national news, soothing, motherly and convincing, or expressive enough to sustain a long educational narration or professional presentation. I can also be bright and playful in a conversational exchange or a rapid-fire ad, and can do the kinds of whimsical little cartoon voices people hear in their heads. I can provide the welcoming perfect diction of a voice mail greeting, or the patience-inspiring sincerity of an on-hold message. My English is unaccented. I'm a native Spanish speaker born in Mexico.

My Voice Experience

*Television -- Features and general assignments news reporter for ABC affiliate KVIA, 1989 - 1994.
Hosted EPISD Live, live half-hour call-in program on cable, 2002-2005.
Wrote, voiced, on-air talent for special projects and monthly arts program on PBS TV affiliate KCOS '77-'88.

*Professional moderator and motivational speaker -- Moderate live panel discussions for National Issues Forums on PBS TV affiliate, KCOS since 1993. Also deliver keynote addresses and present arts education programs.

*Radio -- Currently host weekly program and cut promos for National Public Radio affiliate KTEP 88.5 FM. Hosted MedTalk, weekly call-in radio program for KELP '93-'96. Associated Press phone vo's '89-'94.

My Training

As a vocalist, I have studied voice on-and-off for more than 30 years. When I sing, I'm a perfectionist for pitch and inflection. For voice over work, I listen to my clients and take direction well.

As a TV news reporter, my daily voice over work included six-years'-worth of everything from traffic fatalities to city hall shenanigans, but my specialty was the arts and genuinely moving human interest features.

Currently, on KTEP public radio, my half-hour weekly program features relaxed interviews on the arts -- my radio voice is key to holding listeners.

Additional Skills

As a teaching artist, I work extensively with incarcerated juveniles, using my voice to engage, stimulate and sooth. I practice and teach T'ai Chi and Chi Gung. As a professional singer and recording artist, my voice is my instrument and capable of producing a satisfying array of colorations and nuances.
