I am presently a performing arts teacher at a high school in New York. As a teacher, I am always talking and I always have to make myself understood. When you can get 150 high school students to actually LISTEN to you and really COMPREHEND what you are saying everyday, you feel successful. Years ago, it took a lot of practice, but now it is a natural thing for me. I don't care what anyone says--my daily audience is probably the toughest. If I can GET THEM--- I win. I ALWAYS win. Vocal command is essential for me, but capturing their attention by using voice variations, plays a huge role in my daily life. I also teach teachers how to teach. If you think the kids are a tough audience, teachers are a lot worse.
My education is pretty extensive, after receiving an MFA in acting and performing arts, I went to to obtaining a teaching lisence, and then proceeded to get an administrators lisence. Before teaching, my life was performing, I guess that is why teaching has been successful. I feel that my vocal and speech training from my college years has been a key element to my daily life and success as a teacher.
I am humble, so this is always hard for me. I have a great sense of humor--dealing with kids all the time, you MUST remain in good spirits. I have A LOT of hobbies and talents. I am always fooling around and always on the go. Most of all, my job--like all teachers, is to get people to listen. Having a good sense of humor and a theatrical background leaves me open for many possibilities.
