I can sum up my experience in one word! NONE. Professionally anyway, I have been in the sales field for about six years. I was keen to take notice of just how strong my voice was and used it to my advantage in every opportunity that presented itself. The "unsure" consumer who needed guidance to make that correct buying decision, also needed a reassuring voice to deliver that message. They may have wanted to hear trust or excitement. It could've even been that they wanted someone who they felt was exactly like themselves, to still give them that feeling of being in control at all times. Whatever the case, I've discovered it all can be accomplished through vocal inflection, tone, and timing. Using my knowledge, voice, and skill, I've been quite sucessfull in the sales industry, so now I'm looking to see what other available markets are out there for me to conquer! I have been getting compliments and comments about my voice for years now and I'm excited to gain any voiceover experience that can benefit and teach me in the short and long run.
I have no formal or professional training in the voice services industry. The training I do have would be mostly from my sales backround. I have used the telephone in making most of my first contacts to set appointments up for a face to face meeting to occur later that day or in the near future. The initial presentation was most important, so I have always pre-coached myself to be consciously competent of the best way to come across to the prospective client, especially in vocal tone. The tone was the only way for the client to judge me over the phone, so my goal was to always get the best judgement. After that, I constructed my tone to accent critical areas of the formal presentation, responses to questions for the client and then of course at the end for my strong assumptive close. I have sold many different products and items, but I have never steered away from what has made me sucessfull. The various sales situations I've been in where my voice and tone were determining factors, have sparked my interests in a new field where again, I believe my sucess will be rooted in my vocal abilites.
I have always been strong in public speaking and have served as a trainer and teacher in many of my other past employment opportunites. I record music for leisure, so I also have studio experience as well. My skill in sales is what prepared me to start fresh and soak up everything I can possibly learn in being a sucessfull voiceover arist.
