When only a child, my parents bought us a tape recorder for Christmas. I can't count the hours I spent recording "programs & commercials." My career was set. I've been a voice on radio, in television and "the voice" for many companies for whom I've worked. Clients have included Sears, Maas Brothers (Florida), Wards, Florida Hospital, Benny Hinn Ministries, Kennedy Space Center, Southeast Electric Exchange and more. But a particular treasure is reading children's books to my 5yr old grandson. Started that when he was 2 months old. The story has to sound real to him or he quickly gets bored. So far, that hasn't happened.
Though solidly employed in my career since before graduation from High School, I studied television production and directing at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. But learning the trade of voice over has, for me, come from on-the-job experience. Understanding terms like "being a listener & working the room," along with the knowledge that the quality of the voice (though valuable) is the least important consideration but rather, how well do you interpret copy, "do people believe you"...these are the kinds of things that have come through experience.
Voice room with Neumann TLM103, ElectroVoice RE20, Mackie 1642-VLZ PRO. Computerized editing with Saw32. Interfaced with Video in Avid and Final Cut Pro. Equipped for uploading to FTP servers, mp3 emails, CDs or DVDs.
In addition to voice over, with a personal studio that is born of a lifetime of professional positions in broadcasting and production, I am able to add to the voice track music, sound effects, sound bites, etc., and mix them together for release or for video production which I can accomplish on one of several video editing systems. I also offer script writing for specific projects as well as videography.
