My Voice Experience
OK, so I come to New York, the Big Apple, Empire City, with MFA in hand and a dream in my heart, right? I'm going to take New York by storm as the next Meryl Streep, the next Gwen Verdon, the toast of Broadway and the next STAR!
One year later, I find myself looking in the mirror and saying, "Oh my God. This is absolutely awful. I don't want to do this!"
So I decided to take a 'break' from acting. My break lasted 10 years.
Over those years, I became a certified dog trainer and ran my own pet care/dog walking/training service, and was (and is) nicely successful. But the dream of acting never left me. I cracked up my friends with different voices, even singing in those voices. I LOVE cartoons, and watched them voraciously, often imitating the voices I heard. My husband marveled at my skills as a mimic. My friends, even my chiropractor, said to me, "Have you ever thought about doing voice overs?"
From my acting days, I heard over and over again, "Voice over? Pfft, don't bother-- they hire the same 5 people all the time. You'll never break in." But I've been paying attention over the years. Animation has exploded. Video games sell more than comic books. Then there was the day I picked up a "talking" greeting card. And I said, "Well, it's obvious MORE than 5 people are doing this! My friends are right-- why AREN'T I doing voice overs???"
So I went to a voice over class here in NYC, one that advertised, "brutal honesty" about one's talent and their chances in the business. I read and recorded. The next day, I got a call from the instructor. "You're one of the strongest prospects we've seen in a long time. We think you have a VERY good shot in this business."
So...here I am. :)
I won't lie, I'm a 'newbie' to voice over, but not to performing. I am a trained singer and actress. I think my demos will speak for themselves. I have a very wide range and can do whatever is thrown at me. I am a consummate professional. You won't be disappointed.
