Voice Description

My voice has been described as soothing, comforting, or warm for narrative or instructional uses.

For commercials, I can do sexy and breathy, but I can also do characters and accents (New York, Indian, Southern, cartoonish voices, etc). I've had some vocal training, so I can manipulate my voice widely.

My voice can also sound very proper and academic for presentations or training materials. I am a college English professor, and I am accostomed to speaking carefully.

I can also sound younger than I am. My experience as a singer has helped me learn to manipulate. As a teacher, I'm continually exposed to young voices.

My Voice Experience

I have recorded voice-over lectures and announcements for online English courses I have taught for the University of Maryland. I record these at home using my own microphones, interface, and software. Recently, I have recorded a script to be used with an avatar in an online tutorial.

As a musician, I have recorded narratives over my musical compositions. These recordings were used as part of performances at a few Washington, D.C. art galleries.

I do not have much formal voice-over experience, but I have had non-speaking roles in a few television commercials and years of experience recording in professional studios. A few film producers and studio engineers suggested that I look into doing more voice-over work.
