My experience last evening at a professional conference spurred me to make this brave and bold step. It may the boldest step I have made in my entire life. I was invited to be part of a key note speaker's address which took the form of a performance presentation. I received the script two days before the presentation and spent thirty mintues preparing. I took the role of various characters involved in the Bush Administration decision to go to war and various key actors involved in the controversy. I was applauded by my many members of the audience for my readings and told how captivating my voice was. Finally, one member of the audience came up to me and asked if I ever thought of doing voice over. I had never ever given it a thought. However, I noted that quite recently one of my friends remarked that my voice message would be a good ad for Verizon she was so impressed with the quality of my voice on the phone. I thought maybe I am missing out on using what must be a God given talent.
As a singer, I was taught how to ennuciate words clearly. As a teacher, I knew the importance of speaking clearly and ensuring that those with whom you were communicating understood you. As a presenter at conferences, I was always conscious of how I conveyed my message to my audience. I guess my recitations in Sunday School and at Arts Festivals as a child did pay off.
My Bachelor's degree is in English/Spanish, my masters in Curriculum and Instruction and my Ph.D is in Educational Psychology. I have a deep understanding and feeling for language, literature, and communication. I used drama in education as a teacher and coached students in public speaking.
